Enriched Robotics

Expanding on the success of our Robotics course since 2007, UMEI has created a new, innovative 4-year program that will appeal to students who excel in areas of math and science and want to participate in an enriched classroom environment that challenges them to think locally and beyond.

This enriched Robotics program is for enthusiastic learners interested in environmental stewardship and studying in the areas of Math, Science and Technology, with an emphasis in Robotics. The hands-on program style will speak to students who are motivated beyond traditional learning styles and would like to do more adaptive, creative, critical and divergent thinking.

Students will have the opportunity to study Robotics in all 4 years, as well as compete regionally, nationally, and beyond with UMEI’s FIRST Robotics Team (#8081).

Benefits of Hands-On Learning

Benefits for students are believed to include increased learning; increased motivation to learn; increased enjoyment of learning; increased skill proficiency, including communication skills; increased independent thinking and decision making based on direct evidence and experiences; and increased perception and creativity.

  • forces student thinking by requiring interpretation of the observed events, rather than memorization of correct responses
  • promotes cause and effect thinking.

Students in activity-based programs have exhibited increases in creativity, positive attitudes toward science, perception, logic development, communication skills, and reading readiness.
